PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a die for warm and hot forging excellent in wear resitance by forming the structure to a specified depth from the working face of a die base material into a nitriding layer in which hard particles essentially consisting of Cr and N and having specified particle size are dispersed. SOLUTION: A die base metal having a compsn. contg., by weight, 0.1 to 1.0% C, <=1.2% Si, 0.1 to 1.5% Mn, <=5.0% Ni, 1.0 to 1.2% Cr, one or two kinds of W and Mo by 1.0 to 5.0% by 1/2W+Mo, <=5.0% V, <=0.4% Nb, <=5.0% Co, and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities and subjected to annealing is subjected to rough working and is thereafter subjected to nitriding treatment. Next, it is subjected to quenching and tempering and is furthermore subjected to nitriding treatment to form the structure on the inside of 100μm from the working face of the die base metal into a nitriding layer in which hard particles of >=0.1μm essentially consisting of Cr and N are dispersed. In this way, the die for warm and hot forging high in wear resistance and the effect of suppressing frictional heat can be obtd.
