PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject new specific derivative having a water solubility, manifesting an excellent ultraviolet rays absorbing activity having a maximum absorption in a UV-A region, and useful as an ultraviolet rays absorption agent and an agent for external use for skin blended with the same. SOLUTION: This new hydantoin derivative expressed by formula I [A is a residue obtained by removing (n) hydroxyl groups from an alkylglycoside having a 1-20C alkyl group; X is H, OH, a methyleneoxide, a 1-20C hydrocarbon and a 1-20C alkoxy; Y is an alkylene; (a) is an integer of 1-5; (n) is an integer], has an activity to absorb ultraviolet rays in a UV-A region, and is useful as an ultraviolet rays absorbing agent and an agent for external use for skin blended with the same. The compound is obtained by heating for reacting a hydantoin carboxylic ester derivative expressed by formula II (R is a lower alkyl) with an alkylglycoside in the presence of a base in a solvent such as N,N-dimethylformamide at 100οC.
