HYDROGENATING CATALYST PRECURSOR, HYDROGENATING CATALYST AND PRODUCTION OF ALCOHOL

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydrogenating catalyst precursor not having a problem of environmental pollution possessed by a copper-chromium catalyst and enhanced in activity, durability and selectivity as compared with a conventional copper-iron-aluminum catalyst, a hydrogenating catalyst obtained by using the catalyst precursor and a method for producing an alcohol by using the hydrogenating catalyst. SOLUTION: This hydrogenating catalyst precursor contains a composite oxide containing copper, iron and aluminum in an atomic ratio of Cu: Fe:Al=1:(0.02-0.4):(1.0-4.0) and having a copper-aluminum spinnel structure as a main component and this hydrogenating catalyst is obtained by using the catalyst precursor. An alcohol is produced by using this catalyst.
