PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a base fabric for an air bag having light weight, excellent storability and low air-permeability while keeping mechanical properties and flame-retardancy required as an air bag. SOLUTION: This base fabric for an air bag is constructed of polyamide filament yarns having a relative viscosity of 2.7-4.7ηr, containing 2.0 to 7.5×10<-5> mol/g of amino terminal group, having a single fiber fineness of 2-8 denier, total fineness of 100-600 denier, filament number of 30-300, tensile strength of >=5.5g/d, elongation at break of >=5%, dry-heat shrinkage of <=1.5% at 150 deg.C and a boiling water shrinkage of $5%. The air-permeability of the woven fabric is <=40cc/cm<2> /sec measured by passing a fluid (air) under a pressure of 0.2kg/cm<2> and measuring the flow rate of the air. The air bag is produced by using the base fabric for air bag.
