WATER-SOLUBLE RESIN AND USE THEREOF FOR PAPER COATING

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating composition which can give high-quality coated paper, for example, coated paper having a high ink receptivity and high water resistance and to provide a water-soluble resin useful therefor. SOLUTION: This resin is obtained by reacting at least two components of a polyamine selected among alkylenediamines and polyalkylenepolyamines and a urea and reacting the obtained reaction product with a crosslinking compound selected from among glycidyl compounds each having at least two glycidyl groups in the molecule and isocyanates each having at least two isocyanate groups in the molecule. The resin may be further reacted with a compound selected from among epihalohydrins andα,γ-dihalo-β-hydrins. It is useful for coating paper and is mixed with a pigment and an aqueous binder to form a paper coating composition.
