PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simply coil a strip without disorderly coiling by controlling shifting of a deflector roll arranged at the front of a coiler according to coiling quantity and making the coiling angle of the strip constant. SOLUTION: The strip 10 is coiled into a coiling shaft 15 of the coiler 11 rotated with a motor 16 while controlling the coiling angleαwith the deflector roll 12 freely rotatable arranged at the front of the coiler 11. This deflector roll 12 can be shifted with an advancing/retreating device 13 composed of a motor 21, bearings 18, 19, guide rod 23 and male screw shaft 20 through a shifting truck 24 for supporting the deflector roll. At this time, rotating speed of the coiling shaft 15 is detected with a rotating meter 17 and also, a rotating meter 25 is fitted to the deflector roll 12 to detect the passing speed of the strip 10. The radius of the coiled strip onto the coiling shaft 15 through a control device 14 is calculated from this detected value and the horizontal position of the deflector roll 12 is controlled through the motor 21 so that the angleαbecomes the constant according to the radius.
