PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inhibit lowering of a printing speed by a method wherein control for transferring a head to a position of executing preliminary discharge, for example, a home position, and time required therefor are made unnecessary. SOLUTION: A preliminary discharge position of ink so constituted as to be positioned within a range of reciprocating motion of a carriage 12. When an interval of a timing pulse TP outputted from a sensor 31 being a positional detecting means of the carriage 12 is longer than a set value TC of a timer being a time measuring means, it is detected to be a home position i.e., the preliminary discharge position of ink, and preliminary discharge is carried out. |
