PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a printing speed from being lowered, if the number of color tones of a secondary color by arranging the groups A, B, C of dot elements for forming dots of different colors from a color printing head in the order of the groups ABCBA of dot elements in the main operating or the auxiliary operating direction. SOLUTION: A color printing head 3 has a first group of yellow ink jet dot elements 34, magenta ink jet dot elements 33 and cyan ink jet dot elements 32, a second group of magenta ink jet dot elements 31 and a second group of yellow ink jet dot elements 30, which are all arranged sequentially in the main operating direction. In addition, the color printing head 3 is operated in the main operation mode in an arrow direction, and is operated in the auxiliary operation mode in an orthogonal direction with the arrow direction when the line is fed. Consequently, the difference in the recording time between the first and the second color is equalized by a combination of the same two colors. The groups of the dot elements are arranged in the order of the groups ABCBA of dot elements and the group C of dot elements is the center of the symmetrical arrangement. Thus it is possible to increase the number of secondary color tones by a single operation in the main operation mode or without feeding the recording head reversely and print an image at a printing speed maintained constantly. |
