PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prepare a low-viscosity, low-caloric and readily dryable sugar coating liquid, good in appearance and hardly changing with time. SOLUTION: This sugar coating liquid comprises 110-300 pts.wt., preferably 130-170 pts.wt. saccharide and/or maltitol based on 100 pts.wt. erythritol. The erythritol may be in a completely dissolved state or converted into a crystallite having <=100μm average grain diameter. The concentration of the erythritol and the saccharide (e.g. sucrose) and/or maltitol is 60-80wt.%. When the ratio of the erythritol in the sugar coating liquid is increased, erythritol crystals are deposited to prevent a cone and a plate from rotating and measurement cannot be carried out when measuring the viscosity. The size of the erythritol crystals is large and the texture of the resultant sugar-coated tablets is roughened. The sugar-coating liquid is useful as a coating agent for the confectionery, tablets, etc.
