595,646. Lubricating machines. BERTHIEZ, C. W. May 10, 1945, No. 11707. Convention date, Dec. 16, 1943. [Class 83 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXIV] Machine tools in which a carriage 2 slides along a guideway 1 with lubricating oil injected between the sliding surfaces are protected against escape and consequent soiling of the oil by providing at each end of the carriage a recess extending around the end perimeter of the carriage slide face into which recess the oil flows for drainage and return into circulation. The recess may be cut in the material of the carriage but in the arrangement shown in perspective view, Fig. 1, and part sectional longitudinal elevation, Fig. 3, the recess 5 is provided by a separate end member 3 secured to the carriage 2 and shaped in the interior to provide the drainage recess 5 and to accommodate sealing strips of felt 6 backed by metal strip 7 and spring-urged into contact with the face of the guideway ; the oil collecting in the drainage recess 5 passes to runways 14 whence it is returned into circulation. |
