Method for encapsulating radio-active waste

The method is for encapsulating radioactive waste (1) in a capsule (4) for final storage, where the encapsulation occurs in a treatment station incorporating a water-filled basin (3) and at least one space (14) with radiation-screening walls. In the water in the basin the radioactive waste is arranged in a capsule which also in the water is closed with an inner tightly closing cover (8). The inner cover (8) incorporates sealed holes and to the first hole in the inner cover is connected one end of a first component (18) whose other end is arranged to issue under the water surface (3a) in the basin. To the first hole is also connected one end of a second component (20) whose other end is arranged to issue at the capsule (4) lowest part. The capsule is raised so that at least the inner cover upper part is above the water surface (3a) in the radiation-screening space (14). The capsule is emptied of water via the first and second components (18, 20). To the second hole in the inner cover is connected a third component for feed of drying medium so that the capsule interior including the waste (1) is dried. To the third hole is connected a fourth component for atmospheric exchange.
