PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To industrially and advantageously produce a 2-(substituted phenoxymethyl) benzoic acid derivative which is an intermediate for producing an oxepin derivative by adding a specific phthalide derivative and sodium methylate to a specified phenol derivative and then heating the resultant reactional solution at a specific temperature. SOLUTION: (B) A compound of formula II [R<3> is H, F, Cl, Br, CN, nitro, a 1-4C alkyl or a 1-4C alkoxy (carbonyl) ] and (C) sodium methylate are added to (A) a compound of formula I [R<1> is H or methyl; R<2> is H, a 1-4C alkyl, OH, F, Cl, Br, CN, nitro, a di-1-3C alkylamino (carbonyl), carboxyl or a 1-4C alkoxy (carbonyl); (n) is 0-4] and the reactional solution is then heated to 150-180 deg.C temperature to afford a compound of formula III. |
