Split spring locking ring

Two elements (1,2) are screwed together. One of the elements has an annular groove (9) seating a split spring ring (3). The thickness (D) of the ring is slightly less than the breadth (B) of the groove. The periphery of the ring protrudes from the groove and is thickened (6) on one or both faces. The thickening may form a continuous rim or be a series of conical protrusions. The thickening prevents the ring from being pushed into the groove, so slackening the locking between the two elements, particularly when torsional forces are applied to the assembly.
