The cargo type air-ground missile (3) is released in order to follow a nominal trajectory (4). The missile includes a head (5) which contains the electrical components controlling ejection of sub-missiles (9), the main body (6) which holds the sub-missiles, and a rear propellant section (7) with stabilising fins (8). The sub-missiles are ejected from the hold in a 'depositing' operation controlled by the electronic block (5). Their subsequent trajectory includes three phases. In the first phase they are in free flight (A) parallel to the main missile path, whilst in the second phase (B) they are braked by the deployment of a parachute (10). This causes a substantial change in direction (more than 30 degrees) leading to a steeper descent. During a final propelled stage the missile is driven by its own propellant in order to gain sufficient speed to penetrate the target.
