The starter motor is of the type, which consists of a drive shaft (20), on which is mounted the pinion (12), which is fixed to the shaft in rotation, but free to be displaced axially along the shaft, by means of the drive collar (16), driven, in turn, by the starter forks. A screw (30) is fixed into the free end of the drive shaft and is formed with a head (32). The screw forms the stop for the pinion, when it is displaced axially under the action of the thrower. The actual means of stopping the pinion consists of a washer (40), which is located between the head of the screw and the end of the shaft. The washer acts in co-operation with a shoulder (26), which is located in the bore (18) of the pinion.
