Reducing the radar signature of an aircraft or missile comprises detecting the frequency of an electromagnetic wave in the air flow, and intercepting a fraction of the transported energy for at least one propagation mode or group of modes. The fraction is amplified and de-phased, and is then re-injected back into the air flow to cancel out or reduce the energy emitted by the flow and corresponding to the propagation mode or group of modes. The procedure is carried out with the aid of a number of electromagnetic wave frequency detectors (C2), interceptors (C3,i) for a fraction of the incident energy transported by one or more propagation modes, an amplifier (Ai) and de-phaser (Di) for the energy fraction, and an injector (C4,i) to return it to the air flow.
