A procedure for illuminating signs consists of using a panel of PMMA (polymethyl methacrylate) or other material which is a good diffuser oil light, engraving it with the symbols or information, and illuminating with the ends of optical fibres which are fed by one or more light generators set some distance away. The optical fibres can be made, for example, from polymer, glass or silicium, and the light generators can be located in a technical compartment which has easy access for servicing and maintenance. The illumination can be given an aminated effect by using a fixed or variable sequence of colours.
