In a procedure for determining machine winding temperature, the temperature of the machine housing is included. The dead time occurring between load and housing temperature changes is bridged over by the generation of a constantly changing input variable during the dead time, preferably one with an exponential variation. For processing the input variable, a neuronal network is used. One or more input variables are filed in a store in series with the neuronal network. The size of the store is preferably five sampled values.
