This invention concerns a procedure for processing paper documents, including books. The procedure's characterizing feature is that it comprises an initial stage in which the documents to be processed are exposed to the effects of a supercritical pressure fluid formed from a mixture of a gas with 1 % to 20 % mass of an alcohol. The invention also concerns a solvent and equipment for applying the procedure.
