A housing (4) has a magnetic block (8) therein with an exposed side. The housing has an integral, annular, curved, elastomer skirt (6) forming a suction cup (2). The suction cup is used to attach the magnetic block to the external side of an oil passageway, for example, a passageway of an engine oil filter cartridge, such that the exposed side of the block abuts the passageway, the exposed side forming a centralized base of the suction cup. The magnetic lines of force emanating from the block attract and hold magnetically attractable particles from the oil passing thereby against an inner surface of the oil passageway.
