In order to analyse the location of the traffic of a base station in a cellular radio communications network, the process uses measurements of radio parameters made by mobile stations in respect of the said base station and neighbouring base stations. Statistical processing of these measurements, together with cartographic data on the prameters measured, make it possible to determine traffic density in the cell, at least in areas of high traffic density. These results enable the operator of the network to choose the best locations for the installation of new base stations, including microcells.
