<p>A simple assay for purine bases or nucleosides in a liquid sample is provided wherein the purine base or nucleoside is converted to uric acid by the action of xanthine oxidase and purine nucleoside phosphorylase. In an exemplary embodiment, a commercially available uric acid reagent in combination with standards of known concentrations are used to determine the level of purine base or nucleoside in a sample. According to another aspect of the invention, test kits are provided for performing the above-described methods.</p> |
