摘要 1437812 Extruding striped material EASTMAN KODAK CO 30 April 1973 [1 May 1972] 20452/73 Heading B5A [Also in Divisions B2 and G1] A method of coating a substrate with at least one coating layer comprises extruding on to the substrate at least one layer in the form of a single laminar flow, the layer or one of the layers in the laminar flow including a stripe or stripes of a different material from the rest of the layer the stripe(s) extending through the thickness of the layer and longitudinally thereof. In Fig. 3, a laminar flow of three layers is produced when pumps 31, 37, 38 force coating materials into chambers 32, 35, 36 then through slit nozzles 33, 40, 42 on to inclines 34, 41, 42. A stripe is introduced into the top coating from a receptacle 51 through a tube 52. The coatings adhere to a support 44 rotating on a drum 43. Fig. 4 shows similar apparatus where the laminar flow forms a falling curtain before contacting the substrate. In a further embodiment, Fig. 5 (not shown), an extrusion nozzle in contact with a substrate rotating on a drum has several inlets, one of which introducing the strip, and the coating material and stripe are simultaneously extruded. The substrate may be a continuous web, plate, sheet or discrete sheet and may be transparent; preferably a photographic film of cellulose nitrate, cellulose acetate, polyester, paper, glass or cloth. There may be more than one stripe and the substrate may be slit in the direction of the stripe(s). In examples (1) three clear gelatin layers are coated on to a cellulose acetate support, the top layer including a stripe of an aqueous gelatin solution containing dispersed Fe 3 O 4 (magnetite) and a blue dye; (2) a two layer coating has an upper layer comprising a gelatin solution with a stripe of iron oxide dispersed in polyvinyl alcohol, and the lower layer is a gelatin solution containing Carey Lea (colloidal) silver; (3) a polyester support is coated with a layer including a stripe of iron oxide as in Example 1, the layer comprising panchromatically sensitized silver bromoiodide, saponin and gelatin; (4) a single layer of unsensitized silver halide emulsion contains a stripe of the same but panchromatically sensitized; (5) a polyester support has a single coating of yellow dyed gelatin with stripe containing gelatin in which is dispersed a copolymer of butyl acrylate and styrene and a scintillator consisting of 2,5- diphenyloxazole and 2,2<SP>1</SP> - phenylenebis - (5- phenyloxazole); (6) a stripe of &gamma;-ferric oxide in plasticized cellulose nitrate is included in a single layer of cellulose nitrate, (7) a single stripe of gelatin, a non-ionic surfactant, and Ag 2 CrO 4 was included in a layer of a composition of polyvinyl alcohol, copper sulphate, neocuproine, and a non-ionic surfactant. The dried layer is used to detect chloride and uric acid by spot tests.
