<p>An adjustable steering column assembly includes an upper steering column (4) which is adjustable, for example, in a vertical direction, adjustment setting means being provided including a moveable toothed component (12) associated with the upper steering column (4) and being inter-engageable with a fixed toothed component (13) mounted on a housing (10). In order to prevent the toothed components (12 and 13) from jumping out of engagement with each other in the event of loading applied to the steering wheel in the event of a vehicle crash (which would otherwise allow the steering column to rise), a rotatable lever (17) is brought into engagement with the underside of a head of a detent bolt (20) and the moving toothed component (12) to hold the latter in place.</p> |
