Process for preparation of dialkyl oxalate

A dialkyl oxalate is prepared by reacting carbon monoxide and an alkyl nitrite in a gaseous phase in the presence of a catalyst. The catalyst is a porous carrier having a specific surface area in the range of 0.05 to 90 m<2>/g and a mean pore diameter in the range of 500 to 5,000 angstroms on which particles of metal belonging to platinum group are deposited.
