IMAGE BLOCK MATCHING METHOD AND IMAGE ENCODING METHOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily retrieve the similar blocks by calculating the parameters showing the image features in a rectangular block and deciding a range block and a domain block as similar blocks when the coincidence of parameters are recognized between these range and domain blocks. SOLUTION: An original image is divided into rectangular blocks of specific sizes, that is, into a retrieval rectangular range block that is previously selected and a rectangular domain block to be retrieved. Then the parameters of both rectangular blocks are calculated. A block matching processing part 3 performs the block matching processing to retrieve the similar blocks to decide the combination of both range and domain blocks having the highest similarity as the similar blocks and outputs the position information on these blocks. Then the data are temporarily stored in a work memory 2 in a retrieval process of the similar blocks.
