PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color copying machine which can make a device compact by setting the periphery of an intermediate transfer belt, capable of transferring toner images on a photoreceptor one on top of the other, to the shortest length necessary without decreasing a copying speed extremely. SOLUTION: The color copying machine develops latent images, formed on the photoreceptor 2, by means of corresponding color developing units 7-10, moves away the developing unit set in a developing position opposite the photoreceptor 2 and also moves and sets the other developing until into the developing position, transfers the toner image on the photoreceptor 2 to the intermediate transfer belt 3 by means of a charger 24, and endlessly moves the intermediate transfer belt 3 so that the same area on the surface of the intermediate transfer belt 3 passes several times a transfer position where the charger 24 acts. In the color copying machine, a drive control means is provided for temporarily stopping the drive of the intermediate transfer belt 3 so that the time required for the intermediate transfer belt 3 makes at least one rotation is longer than the time required to switch between the developing units 7-10. |
