PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable terminal equipment in which deterioration in the operability due to a display direction is prevented. SOLUTION: This portable terminal equipment is provided with an LCD 22 and a touch panel 24 mounted on the LCD 22 and has the telephone mode in which a dial key or the like used for usual speech is displayed on the LCD 22, a memo mode for memo writing and a FAX mode for FAX transmission reception and two kinds of longitudinal and lateral direction display images are provided for the display image of each mode. Upon the receipt of facsimile information, the display direction of the mode displayed at present is automatically switched into the lateral direction display optimum for the display of the facsimile information.
