<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve purity and contrast of color by providing a focusing electrode between a cathode and an anode of an electroluminescent element. SOLUTION: When electron is emitted from an electron emitting element 60 to an opposite substrate 10, positive electric potential in relation to a cathode electrode 21 is given to a gate electrode 25 by a voltage variable power source 28, which is connected between a cathode electrode 21. The focusing electrode 13 is provided at a position close to an anode electrode 22 on the electron emitting element, and a power source 26 is grounded and a negative electric potential in relation to a grounding electric potential is given. Consequently, electron beams 14 emitted from an emitter electrode are converged toward the center axis direction by an electric field formed by the focusing electrode 13.</p> |
