PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a local vacuum laser beam welding machine that uses no shielding gases nor assist gasses and that requires no high degree of vacuum nor a large vacuum area as in a local vacuum electron beam welding machine. SOLUTION: A sealing material 4 is provided in the tip end of a hollow nozzle body 2 through which a laser beam 3 passes ; its base end side is sealed with a shielding glass 11; a vent/exhaust pipe is communicated between the shielding glass 11 and the tip end of the hollow nozzle body 2. With the sealing material 4 abutted on the weld zone of an object 5 to be welded, an exhaust valve 8 is opened, producing a constant low vacuum around the welding position by means of an exhaust device 10. Then, laser welding is performed in the low vacuum environment, thereby enabling a high precision welding with much deeper penetration than in non-vacuum. The exhaust around the weld zone being small and also in a low vacuum for example at 10<-1> 'Torr or less, the cycle time between the vent and the exhaust can be a short time, enabling a superior deep penetration to be attained with generation of oxidation or metallic plasma suppressed. |
