PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the method in which high audio quality and a good sum values of all higher harmonics distortion and noise are made compatible. SOLUTION: A maximum energy level sub-band unit and its adjacent unit are specified (11) and (12) and marked as important units (13). The energy levels of the sub-band units other than the important units are subtracted by a fixed threshold level until they become negative values (14). Then, required number of bits of the important units are computed, based on an already set bit assignment table (15). Then, a check is made to determine whether the all requested bit numbers are larger than a maximum allowable bit number per frame or not (17). If the answer is yes, an all range bit assignment table is used (18). If the answer is no, an already set bit assignment table, which is a default, is used (19). |
