PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst for use in polymerizing or copolymerizing ethylene which not only has high and durable activity, but also can be used for producing a polymer having a satisfactorily high molecular weight even under a high temperature condition which is advantageous from an industrial viewpoint. SOLUTION: This solid catalyst component A for use in polymerization is prepared by containing (a) a particulate inorganic compound, (b) an organo rate-earth metal complex having a di- or tri-valent metal and a ligand having conjugated π electrons [e.g. bistrimethylsilymethylbispentamethylcyclopentadienylneodymium] and (c) an organometallic compound of Group IA, or IIA metal. This method for producing an ethylenic polymer comprises polymerizing or coplymerizing ethylene in the presence of a catalyst comprising solid catalyst component A, or a catalyst comprising solid catalyst components A and component B which is an organometallic compound of a metal selected from among Group IA and IIA metals and aluminum. |
