A bleached organosolv pulp is obtained in a process comprising the steps of bleaching an organosolv pulp with ozone (26), washing the ozonated pulp with an aqueous solution of a lower alkyl alcohol (30) to remove lignin dissolved therein, removing filtrates of the alcohol wash solution from the washed pulp and returning the removed filtrates for reuse in the process (13, 28). The ozonated washed pulp is further bleached (34) to yield a fully bleached pulp with a brightness of over 90 ISO without the use of chlorine-containing chemicals. |
