Accordingly, an apparatus for detecting the abrasion of a clutch of a transmission which is provided with a plurality of gear clutches, hydraulic pistons adapted to receive the pressure oil from a hydraulic pump (21) and engage the transmission of the clutches, clutch piston chambers, and a control means for selecting a gear in accordance with the depression of the acceleration pedal and the signal from a vehicle speed sensor and outputting an instruction for switching a valve to a selected clutch hydraulic pressure control valve, characterized in that the abrasion detecting apparatus is further provided with pressure sensors (29) for measuring the pressures in the clutch piston chambers, and a clutch abrasion measuring means (10) for storing the relation between the time (T) needed for the pressures of the oil in the clutch piston chambers to reach the predetermined values and the strokes of the clutches, storing the time at which the instruction is given to the selected clutch hydraulic pressure control valve, finding the difference between the instruction time and the time at which the pressure in the selected clutch piston chamber reaches a predetermined value, and detecting the abrasion of the gear clutches on the basis of this time difference.
