The apparatus for supporting a patient (1) in a reclining position whilst undergoing radiation therapy to a confined area of the skull includes a horizontal table (2, 3) which is movable in both the horizontal (4, 5) and vertical (6) planes. An end attachment (7) carries a connection assembly (9) supporting the stereo-diagnostic/treatment head (8) which is required to be carefully fix-positioned with respect to the patient's head in order to ensure accurate beam location to measured coordinates. The assembly (9) enables the apparatus (8) to be moved such as to eliminate any positional stress to the patient and can then be locked with respect to the table (2, 3) with overall fine adjustment via the control (10).
