A process for producing a resin-coated aluminum alloy sheet, from which a drawn/ironed can which is hard to break at its wall and retains a necessary strength can be produced by subjecting the resin-coated aluminum alloy sheet to a composite dry working including a bending/returning step with a die shoulder rounded portion having a small radius and a subsequent ironing step. The process comprises the step of subjecting to a uniform heat treatment an aluminum alloy ingot containing 0.5 to 2.0 wt.% of Mn, 0.2 to 2.0 wt.% of Mg, 0.05 to 0.4 wt.% of Si, and not more than 0.7 wt.% of an unavoidable impurity of Fe, (Si + Fe) being not more than 0.9 wt.%; the step of subjecting the heat-treated aluminum alloy ingot to a hot rolling, a continuous annealing or a box annealing, a cold rolling and a surface treatment to produce an aluminum alloy sheet; the step of heating the aluminum alloy sheet; the step of coating both sides of the sheet at a constant temperature with a thermoplastic resin; and the step of quenching the same.
|
