Chip card reading apparatus

The apparatus includes a switch (3) which senses the presence of a chip card. The switch is fixed to the opening of a card slot (2). The switch includes a recess (10) with a switching element (4). An actuator arm (15) is attached to the recess and extends laterally in the inserting direction of the chip card. The actuator operates the switching element when the chip card is inserted into the slot. The recess includes a frame (10) which traverses the slot and is arranged in a lateral direction to the card inserting direction. The actuator is arranged in the frame and extends over the entire chip card width.
