The spacer block (1) comprises a pre-set number of connected spacer or shim discs (2) of which one can be torn off the block and is contoured to match those of the parts to be connected. The discs have fitted grips (15) and are made of sheet metal or plastics to a wall thickness of 0.5-1 mm. The block consists of from 5 to 20 shim discs in all held to the block by adhesive tape or film for tearing off as required. The discs can be holed or recessed to reduce their weight and the block swerves primarily to compensate for tolerance in car chassis assembly. Details include holes (5,6) and grooves (7,8) for the screw used to secure the block to the chassis members. The tolerance gap is first measured and the block folded so part of it matches this gap. The remainder of the block is then torn off, leaving the appropriate number of discs to shim the chassis members up to one another.
