PURPOSE:To obtain a reformer whose reforming furnace is miniaturized by making a combustion space compact while maintaining uniform heating. CONSTITUTION:A combustion device 7 is constituted of plural fuel pipes 7a, plural air jet holes 7b, a combustion chamber 7c and an air chamber 7d. In the combustion device 7, the jet direction of fuel gas from the fuel pipes 7a and tie jet direction of combustion air from air jet holes 7b are both perpendicular to the length direction of reaction pipes 2 and the fuel pipes and air jet holes are arranged in the lower sides of a reforming furnace 1 so that they may face to the central side of the reforming furnace 1. In the combustion device 7, flames 7e are formed perpendicular to the length direction of reaction pipes 2. The flames 7e do not come into contact with the reaction pipes 2 even when they become longer according to the operating conditions and the reforming furnace 1 is miniaturized by decreasing the height of a combustion space 8. |
