The device has a latchable phantom sole (5) which is supported by a column (2), for engaging the ski to be machined. The phantom sole is detachably connected with the column in two positions, which on opposite sides are located at 180 degrees in relation to a rotary axis which is vertical to the longitudinal axis of the phantom sole. The phantom sole has a slide shoe and at least one slide guide (4) arranged on the column for accommodation of the slide shoe. Devices are available for locking (40) the slide shoe in the slide guide. The slide guide is a T-groove-shaped profile rail and the slide shoe is a T-groove piece. The slide shoe can be pushed inwards to a stop in the slice guide. The phantom-sole is adjustable along its length and has a swivel hinge (3) along its length, so as to allow swivelling of the sole with respect to the column.
