PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect whether a recording medium is present at a proper position without contaminating or damaging a recording medium in a manual printer. SOLUTION: The moving quantity of a manual printer on a recording medium detected by a position detection circuit 26 and the presence of the recording medium at a printable position in opposed relation to a recording head are detected in a non-contact state by a light emitting element 31, a light detection element 32 and a paper surface detection circuit 30 and a CPU 16 forms a printing timing signal on the basis of this detection result. By this constitution, the printing operation of the recording head 5 can be controlled corresponding to whether the recording medium is present at the printable position and the recording medium is not damaged at a time of the detection of the recording medium. |
