摘要 <p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a high speed consecutive shot function, without increasing the circuit scale. SOLUTION: Image data from an image pickup device 1 are given to an orthogonal conversion coding section 4, in which DCT processing and quantization processing are conducted. In the case of the consecutive shot mode, a quantization output is fed to and stored in a storage device 24, via a switch 22. A recording rate of the storage device 24 is sufficiently high, and even in the consecutive shot mode operated comparatively at a higher speed, plural quantization outputs received sequentially are stored in the storage device 24. The quantization output read from the storage device 24 is subject to variable length coding by a variable length coding section 8 and given and stored in a storage device 11. The storage device 24 has only to store the quantization output whose data amount is reduced, so as to reduce the storage capacity required for the storage device 24.</p>
