PRODUCTION OF CARBON FIBER PRECURSOR YARN

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a carbon fiber precursor yarn remarkably suppressed in yarn breakage and fuzz by applying an emulsion containing a specific modified silicone to a yarn obtained by spinning and drawing an acrylic polymer solution. SOLUTION: Five to twenty wt.% amino-modified silicone having 0.1-10wt.% content modified by amino group is blended with 1-5wt.% epoxy-modified silicone having 0.1-10wt.% content modified by alicyclic epoxy group and 1-4wt.% alkylene oxide-modified silicone having 10-80wt.% alkylene oxide-modified amount to prepare an emulsion. A copolymer solution of itaconic acid with acrylonitrile as a dope is subjected to (dry)wet spinning and then drawn in a bath and the resultant yarn is immersed in the emulsion at <=25 deg.C bath temperature, dried, densified and drawn by pressurized steam to provide the objective carbon fiber precursor yarn.
