PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce costs and to surely absorb shocks by eliminating waste from manufacturing processes and assembling processes of the intermediate shaft of a steering device. SOLUTION: In the intermediate shaft of a steering device contracted to absorb shocks when receiving a shock load more than required, an intermediate shaft 8 having a female serration 8a in its inner peripheral surface is provided and an inserting shaft 9 having twist teeth 9a slightly inclined with respect to an axial line O and forcibly engaged fitted between any of all the teeth of the female serration 8a of the intermediate shaft 8 is provided. Upon receiving shocks, the intermediate shaft 8 and the inserting shaft 9 are contracted, but the shocks are absorbed by the resistance of the twist teeth 9a of the inserting shaft 9 to the shocks.
