PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heating method by which the bend of the billet of a pure titanium and a titanium alloy can be reduced at the time of subjecting them to rolling into a bar, a wire or a tubular material. SOLUTION: In a heating stage before rolling, using a walking beam type heating furnace rotatively carrying a cylindrical billet with an axis as the center, it is rotated at the rotating speed of 6 to 36 deg./min for one or more rotations at the holding temp. of 680 to 850 deg.C as for pure titanium, 780 to 900 deg.C as for anα+βtype alloy and 950 to 1150 deg.C as forαorβtype alloy, by which the bend of the billet present from the first can be reduced. Moreover, its temp. is raised for <=10min by an induction heating furnace to a working temp. higher than the heating temp. by the walking beam type heating furnace, by which its oxidation can be suppressed, and flaws thereon after rolling can be reduced.
