PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to expose in a short time without using a complicated mechanism and control means and to obtain a recording image of high quality level by optically separating an optical modulating layer and an active element. SOLUTION: The exposure time is controlled in synchronization with the period of a write image signal supplied to a reflecting type special light modulating element by controlling the operating time of the light modulating layer 30. For example, the layer 30 is opened for a period of substantially 1/60sec as shutter means. The element can prevent the decrease in the image quality even if the layer 30 of the reading side and the element 2 of the writing side are optically separated by shielding means and strong light is used as the reading light. Since a transistor and a wirings can be disposed at the lower side of a reflecting electrode layer 8, the element 2 is constituted in the laminating direction, and when it is seen from the reading side, the open area ratio of substantially 100% is obtained in the effective screen of a liquid crystal. |
