PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a window environment provided with the high speed hit test of a window in an irregular form and area clipping by generating a global hit test data structure having plural compressed scanning line data sets. SOLUTION: The global hit test data structure having the plural compressed scanning line data sets showing scanning lines on a desk top 150 is generated. The respective compressed scanning line data sets with data structure contain vectors for mentioning the window proprietary rights of a span in the related scanning line and window identifiers related to the vectors. The vectors identify the spans of the related scanning lines and the respective window identifiers identify the windows in the window environment having the identified spans. A memory has the stored data structure containing the plural compressed scanning line data sets showing the plural scanning lines for displaying the window environment in a data processing system where the span is the pel of the scanning line.
