PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To securely detect a reddish and a bluish vehicle by extracting the vehicles by performing threshold value processing for a hue image generated by separating a color image signal obtained by photographing a vehicle detection object area into primary color signals of R, G, and B and then converting the signals of R, G, and B into hue signals of an HVC coloration system. SOLUTION: The color image signal generated by the photography of a color TV camera 1 which takes an overlook photograph of the vehicle detection object area is separated into the primary colors R, G, and B by an RGB decoder 2 and then converted by AD converters 3R, 3G, and 3B into digital data, which are stored in RGB image memories 4R, 4G, and 4B. A hue arithmetic processing part 5 reads the R, G, and B data out of the image memories 4R, 4G, and 4B, pixel by pixel, and calculates and stores the hues of pixels in a hue image memory 6. A vehicle decision processing part 7 performs the threshold value processing for the hue image stored in the hue image memory 6 and extracts only vehicles from the hue image by making good use of differences in hue between a road surface and the vehicles and between the vehicles. |
