PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydrogen storage alloy for a battery with high electrode capacity and a long battery life even when operation environment is changed by properly setting the kind and composition ratio of rare earth elements for constituting the alloy. SOLUTION: A hydrogen storage alloy has a composition represented by the general formula, (R100-a Aa )x (M100-b M'b )y M"z . (R is at least one element selected from La, Ce, Sm, Nd, Pr, and Y, A is at least one element selected from Ti, Zr, and Hf, M is at least one element selected from Ni, Co, and Fe, M' is at least one element selected from V, Nb, Ta, Cr, Mo, W, Mn, Cu, and Si, M" is at least one element selected from B, Al, Ga, In, Sn, Pb, Bi, Tl, and Sb, and x, y, z each has the atomic ratio of 5.7<=x<=6.3, 10.5<=y<=13.5, 0.8<=z<=3.5, and a, b each has the atomic percent of 0<=a<=30, 0<=b<=30). |
