PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the safety of a machine tool or the like by changing a detection condition in response to a light shield state in the case of using the multiple optical axis photoelectric sensor for the machine tool or the like. SOLUTION: A sequential light emitting circuit 11 drives sequentially light emitting elements LED1-LEDn. Light emitting elements PD1-PDn are provided to positions opposite to the light emitting elements LED1-LEDn. A light receiving selection circuit 14 selects a light receiving level of each light emitting element. In the case of detecting its output, when lights of plural consecutive optical axes are shut, the safety is improved by changing the count threshold level of the light shield detection in response to the optical axis number.
